I want to wish a Happy 10-Year Anniversary tomorrow to all the passengers, crew, first responders and everyone else who played some part in the Miracle on the Hudson. It was 10 years ago that Sully Sullenberger executed that unfathomable landing that gave life to 155 people just minutes after many of them had prepared to die.
Do you remember that day? I sure do. Spellbound by the riveting news accounts of those passengers standing on the wings of the plane waiting for rescue in the frigid Hudson River, I felt a calling to help bring more light to their story as a way to touch and inspire others, to help extend the ripples of hope from an event where people and forces came together to make something good happen.
As co-author of “Brace for Impact: Miracle on the Hudson Survivors Share Their Stories of Near Death and Hope for New Life,” I feel a personal link to that day, to that riveting experience. I am especially grateful to the 25 passengers and first responders who opened themselves to share what happened to them not only on that day but in the weeks and months after they returned to a “new” life. To them I say, have a great time in New York, Charlotte, or wherever you may be celebrating!
